Part 3 Libido Shame & Belong

2–5 September 2027 — SHAME & BELONGING

Exploring the landscape of shame, vulnerability and belonging
An embodied journey from self-protection towards self-compassion and the freedom to be seen

Shame is something most of us know intimately — yet often struggle to talk about. It can make us shrink, hide, freeze, disconnect, perform, please or turn against ourselves. And because shame is not only something we think, but something we experience in our bodies, talking about it is often not enough.

In this workshop, we explore shame through the body — through movement, dance, breath, awareness, relational practices and open verbal inquiry. The workshop weaves together perspectives, practices and insights from a range of teachers, researchers and practitioners exploring shame, vulnerability, embodiment and human connection.

Rather than trying to get rid of shame, we experiment with meeting it differently — becoming curious about what happens when we soften, hide, reveal, take up space, withdraw, reach out and allow ourselves to be witnessed.

There can be something deeply healing in being seen without having to hide, perform or become someone else.

What happens in the workshop?

  • We explore the landscape of shame with curiosity, compassion and mindfulness, using the Open Floor Core Movement Resources.
  • We explore how shame lives in the body and how it can shape our habitual patterns of hiding, shrinking, freezing, pleasing, performing or disconnecting.
  • We move through physical, emotional, mental and relational terrain, allowing embodied experience to become a doorway into awareness, compassion and new possibilities.
  • We combine group process, specific explorations, reflection and teachings with dance and movement practices.
  • We draw on practices of awareness and inquiry, breathwork, relational and witnessing practices, and other approaches to deepen and integrate the experience.
  • We explore the possibility of moving from self-protection towards self-compassion, authentic expression, connection and belonging.
  • There is also spaciousness to rest, integrate and simply be together — enjoying the lightness, tranquillity and beauty of continuous dancing, moving, experiencing and relaxing in a closed group surrounded by nature.
  • There is no explicit sexual content or sexual exercise.

Who is it for?

This workshop is open to adults of all genders, sexual orientations and relationship statuses. We strive to co-create an environment that is inclusive, positive, curious and expansive, and that honours the experiences each person brings into the room.

  • It is for people who want to become more curious about their relationship with shame, vulnerability and being seen;
  • who want to develop greater self-compassion and freedom of expression;
  • and who are interested in exploring how shame influences connection, intimacy and belonging.

Some prior experience with conscious movement practices such as Open Floor, 5Rhythms, Movement Medicine, Biodanza or similar is recommended, so that you can fully engage with and deepen the embodied explorations.

This workshop is not about dance technique or performance. You are invited to participate at your own pace, honouring your own boundaries, capacity and sense of choice throughout the workshop.

Libido workshops count as a prerequisite for the Open Floor Teacher Training.

The retreat will be taught in English, with translation into Dutch where needed.

“Yes, I am imperfect and vulnerable and sometimes afraid,
but that doesn’t change the truth
that I am also brave and worthy of love and belonging.”
